One summer wedding

WENDY + SEAN. AQUARIVA IN PORTLAND

Wendy loved calla lilies and wanted her bridesmaids to carry them.  For her own bridal bouquet she wanted a mix of very delicate feminine flowers and a touch of purple.  I surprised her with Picasso callas with deep purple throats.  Her bouquet also featured ladies lavender, white calla lilies, vandala roses, veronica, freesia, purple, white sweet pea, blue hydrangea, and lisianthus.  It was such a fragrant bouquet, and we gave her a free a toss bouquet to match (on the left).  Wendy told me all her flowers far exceeded her expectations and the look on her face was priceless.  That look on the brides face when she first sees her bridal bouquet tells me everything.  Only then, when she is smiling, does the wedding work feel finished.

Congratulations Wendy and Sean and what a lovely bride you were, Wendy.

Portland Fathers Day

We at Tommy Luke have some great ideas to send to Dad this year.  Often times we don’t know what to send Dad that he might actually enjoy.  Dads are usually harder to figure out than Moms. Masculine Flare on sale for $39  Every time a Mother comes in the shop, whether she is a retired mom, or one in active duty- Lou and I whip out our Grandma brag pictures and we all go into the “mommy zone”. Women love to share with each other the joys of mothering, but fathers don’t seem to bond with each other that way.  Ever been to a baby shower for fathers?  Fathers Day is coming soon, and it is time to think about all the great Dads in our lives.

International Travel $139

Here in the Northwest, Fathers seem to take a more active role in their children’s lives .  The two young fathers, sons-in-law, I know, are quite able to bring home the bacon, plus make time to adore and serve their lovely wives and babies.  These young fathers can actually change diapers and care for their children’s needs when Mom is out, well… in a guy way, but hey,  babies love their daddies hanging them upside down and wrestling with them.   What great manly men!  We admire all the modern day dads, and we remember our own Fathers and honor them this June 17th.   And don’t forget, the grandfathers who started the whole thing…it is wonderful to see an older guy’s heart just melt with a baby’s giggle.  Well, that said, we have a bold mix of not-too-flowery flowers and plants here at Flowers Tommy Luke, to send to all the Portland Dads this year.  I’m sure you know of a great Dad too.  Yes, guys do like flowers sent to the office or even the home, as well as a cold beer and and big steak. :)   Take a look at our very masculine flower and plant collections, designed by a guy, Charles, for Fathers Day 2012.

Succulent $45              Snake-pearls  $75        Bamboo Bang  $49

St Patrick’s Day Flowers

In honor of St Patrick’s day, March 17th,  we will be featuring some of our most popular, green flower arrangements.

Limeade, on the left side and  Modern Sleek, to the right,  are both on sale this week for $99 each.  These designs both feature 100%, high-end, long lasting, gorgeous flowers, which all happen to be in textured shades of  green.   Quality is what Flowers Tommy Luke is known for.  Might as well, brag a wee bit;  We are the only, select florist in Portland, for Winston’s flowers.  Which means we have a high standard and reputation of sending quality flowers.  But enough of that, it’s really all about our customers love, loving there flowers and returning back to us ear after year.

Or ask for “designers choice”, and we can design something amazing at your price point.

Meet one of our local growers

Our local growers are stopping by Flowers Tommy Luke with the freshest flowers and blooming branches of the season.  Bonnie, an organic fruit, vegetable and flower farmer, has brought us Hellebore flowers and lots of blooming branches like Winter Hazel.  Bonnie has retired from Lewis and Clark College and now has put all her boundless energy into her six acre farm in Stafford.  Bonnie sells flowers to local florists like us and her fruits and vegetables to restaurants like, Tucei’s, Clark’s, A Cena, Allium and Higgins.

Take a close up look of these Hellebore’s blooms. Don’t they have an unearthly look?  I love how each bloom is completely different.

We have a sale on Hellebore’s for $56 arranged in a leaf-lined vase with local blooming branches.   Or just ask for a few in your next bouquet; we will be getting them from Bonnie for as long as they are in season.  Which according to Bonnie, will be till the beginning of April.

After Valentines Day

Valentines Day was a blast at Flowers Tommy Luke!   Within an hour the shop was covered in fresh arrangements.

Here is Lou packing up, answering phones, and basically managing the whole production. Lou, please clone another Lou!  Here is the whole crew working like little elves at their stations:  There is our dear Yara who returned to help us for Valentines, with her baby bump in tow.   Then Laurie, who most of you have met (me), and our seasonal helper elf, Ryn.  She greened most of those endless “Dozen Red Rose” Vases.  Then there is our local Artist; Charles at his station.  We sort of had to chain Charles to his station, :) , as he is really nice and lots of people want his “help” but we want him designing 24/7!

We really got to know each others crazy side.  Fun times!  But even Miss Kitty is a basket case after Valentines Day. Ditto to that Miss Kitty, until next year!

Valentine’s Day 2012

Valentine’s Day will be here soon!  This year Flowers Tommy Luke would like to help you plan ahead. Every Year you plan to have your gift delivered on Valentine’s Day, this year, consider the option of delivering in advance. This way the magic of Valentine’s Day will last longer than just one day. Valentine’s Day is on a Tuesday this year. Although it is great receiving flowers on Valentine’s Day consider what sending flowers early would mean for your loved one.

Here are some great reasons to ponder….

1. Delivering early is definitely more of a surprise. She expects a gift on Valentine’s Day, However delivering the day or two before is not expected and will be a pleasant surprise!

2. You Just Couldn’t Wait.  The chance to be the first one to say Happy Valentine’s Day and I love You is a great reason to be the early bird. She will appreciate flowers and chocolates anytime so why not do it sooner than later.

3. Avoid the Hassle. Ordering early helps you to avoid the rush and hassle of Valentine’s Day. If you have your gift delivered early it comes with the piece of mind that she will receive her flowers before Valentine’s Day afternoon. Having them delivered a day or two early is an even better idea because you know that she will be able to enjoy them the whole day.  While others are waiting for their gift to be delivered your sweetheart will already be enjoying hers!

4. This year Flowers Tommy Luke will send a Mylar Heart Balloon with your order if you have your flowers delivered at least two days before Valentine’s Day.  Our way to thank you, and  help you give the very best to your love.

5. With Valentine’s Day falling on a Tuesday this year, it’s a perfect opportunity to celebrate your love all weekend long.  You can send flowers to your sweetheart at work on Friday, Feb. 10 with a note reading, “Looking forward to a romantic weekend” or “I couldn’t wait to say I Love You.” She’ll be the first to receive Valentine’s Day flowers. Or surprise your sweetheart by having flowers delivered to her at home on Sunday, Feb. 12. That way you know she will be home and she will get them.

Remember that whatever you are planning on for this Valentine’s   Day here at Flowers Tommy Luke we want to help you make it special.  To view our specials and order from our web  go to  http://www.flowerstommyluke.com/occasions/valentines-day/ or call our studio shop to order at 503-228-3140.

McLane wedding Snippit

Bride's bouquet and Bridesmaid

Last weekend 7/30/2011 was a beautiful day in the Portland area for a lovely outdoor wedding at The Grotto.  The Bride and her family were such a pleasure to work with throughout the planning process and we wish the new couple all the love and happiness in their future together!

The colors were so vibrant, reminding me of sunny, summer ease and orange creamsicles, very refreshing.  Dahlias are a locally grown, summer favorite of mine with their never ending variety of color shape and size.
